Earlier this month, a team of 2005 and 2006 girls took a Challenger Sports tour to England. The trip started in London with sight-seeing, including a Chelsea FC stadium tour, a professional training experience, and a game against Kings Hill FC 05 girls. The match ended in a win for the Avalanche, but more importantly the girls got their first experience playing in another country, and the parents got to enjoy the different and fun atmosphere of an English club. After London, the team traveled to Chester where they stayed for 5 days with daily adventures such as a Manchester United stadium tour, a Liverpool Stadium tour, a visit to Conway Castle in Whales, an Everton vs Valencia English Premier League game, a training session with a Manchester United trainer, and two more games against local clubs. The girls even got an unplanned treat of getting to watch the Manchester United women’s team train. The trip was a great success with several players saying, “can we please stay another week?” and parents saying, “that was even better than I expected!”
The girls are back in Colorado now and ready to kick off the season with a new excitement for the game they love and a broader view of “futbol.” Cheers!
